So much to see, so many shades of green, so natural. I was introduced to Carlos Munoz of WanderTHEMES Travel Experiences in mid-October when we wanted to take a retirement/anniversary/project-completion trip. He came to our house, talked about our wants, needs and desires and then came back with three vacation scenarios. Upon picking Hawaii, he helped us pick out various tours, restaurants and of course, resorts to stay at.
We spent 5 nights on Maui at the Andaz Maui at Wailea. On the beach, four swimming pools, great food, pool side drinks, all the comforts not found at home! REALLY nice. We signed up for a helicopter tour of the Haleakala crater, the “Road to Hana” tour and a sunrise tour of the crater which was cold (!) but interesting and inspiring. Our sunset dinner cruise on a BIG catamaran out of Lahaina was as pretty as it gets with some dolphins swimming along side us for part of the way. Not enough time to see everything and we would have been happy just to sit by the pool and relax.
Off to Kaua’i for 5 nights at the Grand Hyatt Resort in Poipu. 600 rooms but you would think you’re one of the few there. Multiple pools linked up by a “lazy river” to float between them. Again, you could have just stayed on the beach or at the many pools and been content but there were grotto/fern tours and local restaurants to check out. So much to see. The open breakfast area looked out over the beach and there was a pond at your feet that had two swans and lots of Koi swimming around. Breakfast at home will never be the same again. Try to get the breakfast buffets in your room price. The food at both hotels was very good and you can skip lunch easy by eating a good breakfast. Expensive if you just walk in and want to eat.
Everything was as Carlos promised, no snags, no disappointments and he put the tour together in just a few days so we got there before the holiday rush. I have smaller trips planned in 2019 and hope to use him again.
